Programme

The Fifth EDCTP Forum programme will present a variety of subjects related to clinical research on the three main poverty-related diseases (PRDs) of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Scientific programme

On Monday 12 October, African and European leaders will speak on the need for and commitment to clinical research to fight the three PRDs, and will outline the current European and African partnership programmes and research agenda. In the afternoon, the programme will focus on regional research initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa, including Networks of Excellence and ethics and regulatory structures.

On Tuesday 13 October, a variety of speakers will present an overview of recent advances in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria clinical trials during the plenary morning session and the parallel afternoon sessions. The day will round off with a plenary session focusing on the future strategy for clinical research and research capacity development in the three PRDs.

On the morning of Wednesday 14 October, EDCTP Research Fellows will present their work. In the afternoon, research partners, funders and donors will present an overview of EDCTP Partnerships. The programme will end with a wrap up of recommendations and future outlooks.

Social events

During the Forum there will be an ongoing programme of social events. The social programme opens on Sunday 11 October with a welcome reception at 18:00 hours. On Monday night, all delegates are invited to join the official Forum dinner at 19:00 hours. On Tuesday night, there will be a cultural dinner courtesy to the local hosts NIMR and the Ministry of Health of Tanzania. On Wednesday night, our local host will also offer you a closing dinner during which there will be an award giving ceremony for future scientists.
